IBM Communications Server for Windows NT and
Windows 2000, V6.1.1
Features TN3270E and
Host Publisher Enhancements
Overview
IBM Communications Server, V6.1.1
for Windows NT
and
Windows
2000 offers reliable and
secure support for e-business
networks. It connects users to
enterprise host applications and data
over diverse networks
whether
SNA, TCP/IP, intranet, extranet, or
Internet. It enables you to choose
applications based on your business
needs, not on your network
protocols. Version 6.1.1 is a
cumulative service release that also
includes new functional
enhancements.
Extended TN3270E Capabilities
In addition to now publishing to the
Windows Active Directory that it has
TN3270E and TN5250-server
capability, Communications Server
features Express Logon. With
Express Logon, any user of an
appropriate TN3270 client can log on
to a S/390
host application without
entering a password or ID. Instead,
an X.509 digital certificate
automatically authenticates the user.
Thats two less things for users to
remember and for network
administrators to maintain.
Host Publisher Enhancements
WebSphere Compatibility
The
Communications Server V6.1.1 Host
Publisher feature has been enhanced
to be functionally equivalent to the
recently announced WebSphere Host
Publisher V2.2. With this feature, you
can extend the reach of
mission-critical applications to new
users across the intranet and
Internet without changing existing
applications. It also allows you to
integrate multiple sources of host
data into a single Web page, giving
end users the appearance of a single
new application.
WebSphere Host Publisher feature in
Communications Server supports
WebSphere Application Server
Version 3.
New Licensing Scheme
To better
accommodate real-life business
operations, Host Publishers new
licensing terms defines usage based
on concurrent connections rather
than on integration object
requests-per-minute.
Additional Functional Enhancements:
RIO support extension of Host
Publisher to remote Java
applications and applets
An XML Gateway enables access
to 3270- and 5250-application data
in an XML format
An HTML Mapper provides an
entry-level, HTML emulator for
access to 3270 and 5150 legacy
applications
